3/1 Athletics Update

US Spring Sports are Underway!

Crew, Boys Soccer, Girls Ultimate and Track and Field started Monday. Surprisingly sunny…although still quite chilly…our athletes are out on the water, fields and tracks working hard getting ready for their upcoming competitions!

When I started at EPS, I anticipated that our increased commitment expectations might result in a decrease in participation across all sports.  I’m happy to report that has not been the case.  Many of our teams have actually increased in size!  If you are a numbers person like me, here is some fun data for you:

MS Spring Sports Start Next Week!
7/8th Boys Ultimate, 7/8th Girls Ultimate, MS Tennis and MS Track all start next Tuesday, March 5th. 5/6th Boys and Girls Ultimate will begin the week after spring break. Please continue to check TeamSnap as we populate games and meet schedules. We are about 75% of the way there!

March is National Athletic Trainer Awareness Month!
Athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting or working with EPS’s amazing Athletic Trainer, Tammy Marton, you are both lucky (no injuries!) and unlucky (have I mentioned how incredible she is?). We are fortunate to have an Athletic Trainer who is so passionate, confident and knowledgeable in her field but also cares so much for the students at EPS. #WeLoveTammy

EPS Athletic Trainer Stats from Basketball Season:
-Tammy had 140 visits from injured athletes
-35 of these injuries were long term
-Most common injuries this winter:
#1.  Sprained Ankles       29.3%
#2.  Knee Injuries            22.6%
#3.  Shin Splints               12.9%

Games, matches and meets will begin in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait to see you all on the sidelines!
