Fine & Performing Arts

At Eastside Prep, all students are encouraged to participate in the Fine and Performing Arts. Unique to our program is the desire to connect our discipline’s key skills to the learning happening across other disciplines and to the life of our school community. The arts can be a powerful tool in which students can explore our complex world.

Middle School students are required to take a minimum of two Fine and Performing Arts electives per year, choosing from the wide variety of offerings. Upper School students are required to take a total of five Fine and Performing Arts requirements from an array of options, some of which are open only to Upper School students.

Students at Eastside Prep can choose from a variety of music, theater, and visual arts classes. Vocal and instrumental music are offered at both the Middle School and Upper School levels. Students move from the basic understanding of the mechanics of singing or playing an instrument to a more complex set of skills such as how to sing or play expressively. Middle and Upper school theater courses cover acting, improv, and stagecraft. The theater classroom environment is a safe space where students can explore the role the body, the voice and the imagination play in communication, creating, and enjoying dramatic work. We produce three main stage after school shows a year, a Middle School, Upper School, and an all-school production, one of which is usually a musical. Upper School and Middle School visual arts courses explore 2D, 3D, and digital media. Visual arts students begin by gaining confidence in their technical ability and progress to developing strong conceptual and critical makings skill allowing them to effectively navigate our visual world.
