At the turn of the century – in 2000 – a handful of people on the eastside began to consider the possibility that a new, independent school might be a welcome addition to the evolving educational landscape. They started networking, and discovered that several other people shared their interest in creating a new school of thought in Kirkland, to serve students from Seattle to the Sammamish Plateau and everywhere in between.
Eastside Preparatory School opened its doors with 16 students in grades 6 and 7 at its present location in September, 2003. Now, with 170 students in grades 5 – 12, Eastside Prep has established a permanent campus in Kirkland, is fielding teams and producing plays, and placing our first graduates in the colleges and universities, for admission to which, our students have been preparing.
Our thinking curriculum is the hallmark of our program, which focuses on teaching students to think like the writers, scientists, historians, artists and mathematicians whose work they study. At Eastside Prep, our commitment is to enable our students to think for themselves – and for the good of the planet.
Our Vision
Inspire students to create a better world.
Our Mission
The mission of Eastside Preparatory School is to guide students to
- Think critically,
- Act responsibly,

Teacher Qualifications
Successful applicants for full-time classroom positions are outstanding teachers with strong interest in how their students think and learn and in using research-based principles of instruction to guide classroom practice. Applicants must have sufficient expertise in a subject area to help students use its key concepts and methodologies as they engage in academic inquiries. At a minimum, applicants should have a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree or the equivalent in the subject they wish to teach; Master’s Degree or its equivalent is preferred.
All full-time teachers work as part of a teaching team to create an inquiry-based interdisciplinary program in which the academic disciplines are taught as "power tools" – not as inert boxes of significant content, but as systems and methods of thinking about significant content.
Ability to teach more than one subject and past experience in interdisciplinary curriculums are advantageous but not required.
