5/19/2009 - Eagles Ultimate Season Wrap-up
|
 |

Some context for you EPS sports fans… The EPS Eagles play Ultimate in the Disc Northwest Middle School B Division, which is made up of 20 teams with primarily 7th and 8th graders. EPS has a team comprised of 6th and 7th graders. While daunting to some, the Eagles rose to the challenge and played hard this season. In fact, we not only won games, but were at the top of the division for nearly the entire season, finishing regular season play with a record of 5-1-1. This success, put us as one of the top seeds going in to the end of season tournament.
On Saturday May 9th, the Eagles won the first two games to qualify for the semi-finals. This past weekend, in an exciting match against Seattle Country Day School, we won with a final score of 9-6, advancing us to the finals. The final match pitted us against Mercer Middle School of Seattle, and after a valiant effort, we lost 9-4. As a relatively young team, we are extremely proud of this 2nd place finish and look forward to a very strong program next year playing in the A division.
Also of note this season, we fielded a team at Spring Reign, the largest youth Ultimate tournament in the world (more than 80 teams). Because of our success in the Middle School league, we were placed in the top division despite not having any 8th graders. A true honor in the Ultimate Frisbee world, we were given the “Spirit of the Game” award, given to the team with the best sportsmanship in the whole tournament.
GO EAGLES!
