7/20/2009 - Black Box Theatre Construction Slated to Begin
|
 |

The Fine & Performing Arts Department at Eastside Prep has always had a home for our visual art students. Mrs. Balcomb has a wonderfully equipped Art Studio/Classroom in Building 15. And now, our music and theatre students will soon have a “home,” too—construction of a new black box theatre will begin in late July!
Eastside Prep will continue to use the Kirkland Performance Center’s proscenium arch theatre for productions, concerts and programs that require a much larger venue. However, with our very own black box theatre, Eastside Prep will be able to host concerts, vocal and instrumental recitals; guest performing artists and EPS play productions in our very own, intimate, 100-seat theatre.
The room formerly used for Middle School assemblies will begin its theatrical make-over in late July, when a dividing wall is torn down to expand the size of the room. New flooring will then be installed. After the room is painted black, new curtains will be installed. Lastly, the stage, seating platforms, and the sound and light booth will be built.
The premiere music and theatre performances in the Eastside Prep Black Box Theatre will be held in early November, 2009. For more information about the performing arts calendar, please contact kmcquade@eastsideprep.org.
