12/7/2009 - December 2009 Newsletter

Dear Friends, Families and Supporters of Eastside Preparatory School,

Download the December Newsletter 2009

The current year is coming to an end and a new year is almost upon us. We have two weeks of school left before we all take our customary Winter Break. Just before you hit the slopes, go for an extended family trip, or begin your much-deserved period of R&R, we hope our articles help you navigate and enjoy the final few days of school in 2009!

One of our new faculty and staff members is our Director of Counseling and Learning Resources, Dr. Kelly Moore. The front-page article is devoted to an exploration of the potential of emotional learning.

Dr. Macaluso, our Head of School, delves into the unique nature of what an EPS education provides to our students.

Bart Gummere, our Upper School Head, describes the ultimate expression of Upper School experiential learning, the Impact Projects. Our Middle School Head, Sam Uzwack, waxes philosophic about the cycle of the school year.

Skipping to the back page of the newsletter, you will find our School Calendar, which lists important December and January dates. Our regularly-featured Parent Association (PA) Update, provides a recap about the very well-attended Halloween Bowl, and asks parents to attend the January 29th PA meeting.

Dean of Students Jeff Adair, wearing his “Athletic Director Hat,” appears with a recap of our highly successful and growing Fall Sports activities. Lauren Formo returns to the newsletter with an interview with Katie Dodd, our new Ms Science teacher. Jonathan Briggs, our Director of Technology, cleverly models technical consumption after the traditional “food pyramid,” and our Librarian, Karen Mills, describes changes to the Library—both physical and internet-based.

Our next issue will be published and distributed in February, 2010.

As always, please accept our thanks for your interest in and support of Eastside Preparatory School. You are all valued members of our community, and we’re happy to provide you with our six-times-a-year update.

We hope you will enjoy the December newsletter and, more importantly, please accept our best wishes for a restful, rewarding, safe and re-energizing Winter Break!

Sincerely,

Eastside Preparatory School
