12/8/2009 - Eastside Prep Roundball Season Underway!

Two new faculty members are now fully-engaged in coaching at Eastside Prep. Theron Cross, Upper School Math and Physics teacher is coaching the Middle School squad, and Doug Blair, Middle and Upper School Physical Education teacher, is coaching the Upper School squad. Both of the teams have a full complement of players, and the coaches are proud of the kids’ talent and commitment.
The Middle School Boy’s Basketball Team is off to a great start this season. In each of their first games they have seen huge improvements in all aspects, especially player confidence and teamwork. Steven and Chris (an 8th grader and a 7th grader, respectively) have been splitting time at the point guard position due to their scrappiness and ability to handle the ball. Jordan (8th), Keland (6th), and Jacob Molloy (also 6th) have been playing shooting guard, breaking outside to shoot and keeping opposing shooters in check. Dean (8th), Dion (8th), and Josh (7th) have been splitting the 3-man position, setting screens and taking and blocking shots. Michael and Erik (both 8th graders) have been trading off the power forward position, pulling down rebounds and putting up short jumpers. Finally, the big men Nathan (7th) and Max (8th) have been working the inside with rebounds and power lay-ups. The boys have a great attitude toward the game and are hungry for that first win.
The US Men’s Basketball Team has their season well underway, having three weeks of practice and two games already out of the way. Their first game was an exciting 40-20 victory over a team from University Prep. Congratulations on starting the year on such a positive note! On 12/7, the team played Eastside Academy and their next game will be played 12/10 Home (Highland CC) vs. Northwest School. There has been a ton of improvement both individually and as a team during our five weekly practices, and we are all looking forward for many more great things to come. Games run through 2/12/10.
