
Terry Macaluso, PhD
Executive Head of School

Terry Macaluso, PhD, was originally retained by the Eastside Preparatory School Board of Trustees in August 2002, to guide them in the development of the school’s mission and vision. She has served as Head of School since 2004. Previously, Dr. Macaluso spent nearly 30 years in independent school and university education, serving as teacher, college counselor, Upper School Director, President, and Head of School in three different schools. In 1999, Dr. Macaluso retired from the headship of Lakeside School in Seattle, after a successful seven-year tenure that included completion of a $50mm capital campaign, construction of three new buildings, quadrupling of the school’s endowment, the creation of an administrative team, the establishment of a faculty evaluation program, curriculum revision process, and implementation of several new programs and traditions. Lakeside’s Macaluso Endowment for Leadership Development was established in 1999; she is the recipient of the 2006 Willard Wright Award for Distinguished Service, given by the Lakeside Board of Trustees to acknowledge extraordinary service to the school. Dr. Macaluso holds a BA, MA and PhD in Philosophy, as well as an MA in Organizational Design and Effectiveness.

Bart Gummere, MA

Bart Gummere
comes to us from Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia where served as Assistant Head of the Upper School. At Collegiate, he was responsible for college counseling, mentoring teachers, teaching math, and coaching golf and baseball. Before moving to Collegiate, Bart spent eight years at Pingree School in Massachusetts where he was Director of College Counseling, taught math and coached baseball. Bart previously worked as a college admissions officer at Middlebury College in Vermont. MA in Liberal Studies, Social Sciences, Wesleyan University; BA in Economics, Middlebury College.

Wendy Lawrence, MEd
Middle School Head

Wendy Lawrence was a founding member of the Eastside Prep faculty in 2003. Prior to that, Wendy taught for several years in grades 4 – 10. Before teaching, she served in the Peace Corps, living in Lesotho and working for a United Nations biodiversity team where she lectured at local workshops for chiefs and village councils and designed an environmental curriculum to fit their national learning standards. Writing is a passionate hobby of hers, and her work has appeared in publications including the Christian Science Monitor and Seattle Times. MEd from Boston College; BA in both Biology and Economics with high honors from Swarthmore College.

Kevin McQuade, MFA
Director of Admissions & Marketing
Chair, Fine and Performing Arts Department

Kevin McQuade joined Eastside Prep in March 2006. He has been working in education for over 25 years as a teacher, director, administrator, student recruiter and fund-raiser. He served as the Executive Director of the Washington Academy of Performing Arts until 2005, Senior Partner with The Laurasian Institution, and Chair of the Theatre Department at Bradley University. He also served as the Development Director of Bailey-Boushay House. Kevin has performed and/or directed in well over 75 productions. MFA in Theatre (Directing emphasis), Western Illinois University; BA in Speech Communication and Theatre Arts, Eureka College.

Jonathan Briggs, BA

Jonathan Briggs joined the Eastside Prep faculty in June of 2005, after spending the previous four years teaching math and physics, chairing the upper school science and math departments, and coaching volleyball and golf at the Bentley School in California. BA in Physics from Williams College.

Jeff Sanderson, MIT

Jeff Sanderson has been a member of the Eastside Prep faculty since the school’s inaugural year. He began teaching following a 17-year career at Microsoft. Master’s in Teaching from Seattle University; Bachelor’s degree in Economics (summa cum laude) from Princeton University; Harvard Business School.

Jeff Adair
joined Eastside Prep in the fall of 2004 as an intern, and quickly became a presence across academic disciplines. He currently teaches History in the Middle and Upper School and also serves as the Director of Athletics. Jeff brings a wealth of world and cultural experience to the EPS community as he has lived in seven countries and travelled through sixty. He holds a BA and Master’s in History from Western Washington University.

Leah Brown, BA

Leah Brown joined Eastside Prep in October, 2005. As the Administrative Assistant, she provides support to the Middle School Head, faculty, and students. Prior to Eastside Prep, Leah has worked at camps and tutored children from ages 4-18. She graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Psychology. Leah is also fluent in Spanish and Italian.

Lauren Formo, BS

Lauren Formo joined Eastside Prep in April 2007, and comes to the school from a background in youth programs and non-profit management. Her experiences with youth and families have been in various educational and recreational settings. Most recently, she spent three years as the Director of Youth Programs and Associate Director of Friends Outside, a social service program in CA. She received her BS in Psychology from Santa Clara University.

John Greer, BS

John Greer joined the staff at Eastside Prep in November, 2007. He is the Facility Manager of the School and the Head Coach of the Upper School Basketball team. He has extensive knowledge and background in sports as a coach and participant. His past experience includes organization and scheduling of activities and leagues for local city parks/recreation departments and YMCAs. John graduated from Central Washington University with a BS in Recreation Management. He resides with his wife Shannon and their daughter Malea in North Bend.

Tina Hadden, BS

Cristina (Tina) Hadden officially joined Eastside Prep in October 2005. As the Executive Assistant, she provides support to the Upper School Head, the Head of School and the Board of Trustees. Tina brings with her over 10 years of general office administration, primarily assisting senior executives in the sales & marketing field. BS in Management Engineering from Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines.

Sharon James

Sharon James joined the staff of Eastside Preparatory School in November, 2006. Ms. James has amassed more than 15 years of experience in all aspects of accounting and business office operations. She currently resides in Woodinville with her husband, Leo Hupp, and her 5-year old son, Levi James.

Tori Lindsey

Tori Lindsey joined Eastside Prep in January, 2008. As the Upper School Receptionist and Administrative Assistant, Tori provides support to the Upper School Head, faculty, and students. Prior to Eastside Prep, Tori served as Senior Administrative Assistant for Accounting Policy at Washington Mutual and, prior to that position, worked as the Executive Assistant/Transition Services & Human Resources, also at Washington Mutual. Tori resides in Renton.
