On this EBC we will learn more about some of the American war history at USS Yorktown, Fort Moultrie, and Fort Sumter. While exploring Charleston’s significance in the American Civil War, we will explore and acknowledge the contributions made by enslaved Africans and African Americans to this city and the country. We will visit the Old Slave Mart Museum, a key site for the domestic slave trade. We hope to visit the new International African American Museum located at Charleston Harbor where at one time, 40-60% of enslaved Africans entered the US. Additionally, there will be a tour to learn about the Gullah culture and its influence in the city and region,. Throughout the week there will be opportunities to experience iconic southern cuisine and visit other unique sites.
