Intro to Backcountry Skiing and Snowboarding (US or with permission)

Are you being called to the backcountry? Get a great introduction to accessing and exploring both the backcountry and the sidecountry of the Cascade Mountains with professional guides. This week will feature a chance to skin uphill on skis or a split board and then turn around and enjoy the reward of your work. Students will learn about avalanche types and characteristics, terrain, forecasts, danger scales, and human factors. You will learn uphill travel techniques and practice close observation, clue gathering, terrain identification and management. We will split our time between backcountry areas of Snoqualmie Pass and exploration of the side-country at Crystal Mountain Resort, though this will be dependent on weather conditions, etc. Only students who are very advanced-intermediate to expert level should register as you need be confident skiing expert runs and facing variable off-piste conditions. Fees include guides, backcountry gear rental for skiers and snowboarders including skins and avalanche packs, and transportation. There may be some additional lift ticket fees if students do not have passes. Get out there for some amazing spring snow in the mountains!
