Situated on the western tip of North Africa, Morocco–also known by its ancient name Al Maghreb, meaning “the West” in Arabic–contains a mix of indigenous Amazigh, Arab, African, and European influences. As the region’s only monarchy, the kingdom has fashioned its rich cultural heritage into a tolerant state, whose pragmatic and inclusive approach to social and economic development has allowed it to sidestep the instability that has shaken some of its neighbors. Our EBC will begin in the coastal capital city of Rabat, Morocco.
We will tour the old medina (town), including Hassan Tower, Chellah, and Kasbah des Oudayas (fortress). We will participate in a Darija (Moroccan Arabic) lesson and engage in our first learning session on fears & values. The next stop is Azrou, where we will spend much of our trip. Here, we get to know our host community and immerse ourselves in local routines. We will partner with a preschool, women’s co-op, and youth center. We will enjoy a cooking class, an Amazigh dance performance, and a henna ceremony. Will you be the first to spot wild macaques in Azrou’s Cedar Forest? Join us for a rich and compelling exploration of the North African coast!
