The National Pastime: America Through the Lens of Baseball (East Coast)

Dates: 4/6 – 4/11
Location: Domestic
Price Range: $3000-3500
Theme: History, Gender, Analytics
Faculty Contact: Elizabeth Andersen

Join us as we experience America through the lens of its greatest pastime on a trip to the East Coast. From Boston to Cooperstown, Yankee Stadium to Camden Yards, we will focus on both the technical side of the game and its intersection with American history and culture. We will take stadium tours, do workshops, and learn to keep the book as we attend games.

This is a deep dive into the impact of baseball in American society: how ballpark architecture interacts with community, how the color barrier was broken, how the spread of baseball throughout the Americas has shaped MLB teams, and how sabermetrics is used to influence the modern game. With expert presentations and firsthand experiences, this trip will provide an opportunity to build your knowledge of America’s game, appreciate its place in our national consciousness, and fan the flame of your love of the game.
