The World, Through Your LensPhotography is a powerful artform, journalistic tool, and recorder of the world around us. It gives us a unique window into different places and times, and freezes beautiful, memorable, or historic moments for eternity. Students will discover the ins and outs of photography—learn how to operate cameras (from SLRs to cellphones), the basics of contrast, light, color, and composition. Consider what to leave in the frame, and what to leave out. Spend time honing your photographer’s eye, sharing your photographs, and critiquing works of others. We will spend the week with professional photographers and learn different techniques and explore different forms of photography; from fine art photography to photojournalism, from nature photography to portraiture. Throughout the week we will explore various locations where we can practice our new skills, try new techniques, and discover the visual richness of our region. We will also have the chance to build our own pinhole cameras! The week will culminate with a curated showcase of our very best photos from the week.
