Seatle Arts & Architecture

Dates: 4/6 – 4/10
Location: Regional
Price Range: $300
Theme: Arts, Architecture
Faculty Contact: Rick MacKenzie

Enjoy a daily tour of important downtown Seattle art and architecture Monday through Friday. This mostly walking tour will center itself between Olympic Sculpture Park and Pioneer Square. A typical day might look like exploring and understanding the transit tunnels before heading up to discuss the architecture of Benaroya Hall; catching an open rehearsal of the symphony before closing the day with a drawn, written, or spoken reflection. As we make our way through the city, we will learn the history of its evolution and the amenities it now has to offer.
Some highlights we will try to fit into our Monday-Friday schedule are- Underground Tour, The Smith Tower, The smallest National Park, Molly Moon’s Waterfront ice cream, 360 degree view from 902 feet up the Columbia Center, Seattle Art Museum, 5th Avenue Backstage, Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, City Hall, Pike Place Market, The Showbox sound check, Seattle waterfront, Exchange Building, Arctic Building, Moore Theatre. The beginning and end of each day will be in downtown Seattle. Lunch will be found near our daily activities. Appropriate clothing and footwear for an April walk in the city are required.
  • Students and families should be aware that this experience includes:
    • The need for comfortable footwear, layered clothing, and readiness for April rain or cool temperatures
    • Use of public transportation and walking between sites in busy urban areas
    • Exposure to diverse environments including museums, historic buildings, and performing arts venues
    • Full days of activity with limited downtime and emphasis on reflection, observation, and engagement with art and architecture
