Insight: Why I Still Love the First Day of School

By Sam Uzwack, Head of School

As I prepare for my 47th first day of school, I am excited as ever. There is something about the fresh starts, new possibilities, and loads of excitement. Returning students are eager to reconnect with their friends and teachers. New students are eager to dive into the community and start forging their own connections. Over the past two weeks we have been slowly building towards this moment, when, on Wednesday, September 3, we officially begin the 2025-26 school year.

As we start next week, please remember that it is okay to be nervous. There is a lot to learn, whether you are new or returning, student or adult.  We are all here to help you navigate the first days. No question is too small, so please ask away. We will all be building our routines together, and we are all here to help.

Once the routine is established and the kinks are worked out, families settle into the rhythm of the school year. It is my hope that the delightful start-of-year energy persists all year long. That students understand that it is more than okay to love learning, to love your school, and that the adults are here to help you. A special aspect of EPS culture is that is okay to geek out, on anything…ideas themselves are exciting.

Wishing you all a fantastic beginning to the new school year!

Best,
Sam
