Insight: Celebrating Neurodiversity Month

By Jamie Andrus, Assistant Director of Well Being

Neurodiversity Month is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the full spectrum of human thinking and learning. Rooted in the understanding that neurological differences—such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and others—are natural variations rather than deficits, this celebration invites us to move beyond awareness toward appreciation. It is a time to honor the creativity, insight, and unique perspectives that emerge when individuals experience the world in different ways, and to reaffirm our shared responsibility to build communities where every learner feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

At Eastside Preparatory School, a commitment to neurodiversity is embedded in the very foundation of the school’s Mission and culture. From its earliest days, the school intentionally sought to serve a “neurally diverse student population,” grounded in the belief that every student can be a successful learner and that it is the school’s role to meet students where they are. This philosophy continues to shape a learning environment that values individual differences, supports varied learning styles, and encourages students to think critically, act responsibly, lead compassionately, and innovate wisely. By designing programs that emphasize depth of understanding, collaboration, and self-awareness, Eastside Prep makes clear that diversity in how we learn is not only welcomed—it is essential to building a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking community.
