BA History MA Communication-Media Analysis

Laura was born in Ames, Iowa to Colombian parents who were studying at Iowa State University. Her family returned to Colombia when she was 3 years old and was raised in Medellin. After brief trips and stays in the US, she decided to relocate to California in 2014 but moved to the Seattle area in August of that year. She has experience teaching students of all ages; including toddlers, elementary, middle school, high school and college. Before joining EPS, she was a full time elementary teacher at a spanish immersion program in Capitol Hill for five years.

For her, it is important to incorporate her own latinx culture into her teaching. “I believe that spanish is not only part of my culture but an integral part of the way I relate to the world”.

She loves to spend time with her daughter Elena and husband Lucas, read books and watch movies and tv shows.
