Sam Uzwack

Associate Head of School for Middle School and Student Support Services

M.I.T., University of Washington; B.A., History, James Madison University.

For seven years, Sam taught seventh-grade humanities at an independent school in Seattle, where he also co-coordinated the Outdoor Program, served as chair of the Professional Development Committee, and coached soccer and Ultimate Frisbee. His first teaching position was in an Inupiaq Eskimo Village in arctic Alaska, where he taught Middle School social studies and reading. Sam has been Eastside Prep’s Middle School Head since 2009. In that time, Sam has instituted the Middle School Laptop Program and added regular grade level parent talks to the schedule to increase communication between the school and parents. He worked to bring a social emotional curriculum to the Middle School and expanded Middle School technology offerings to include MAKE, BOTZ, and WEB. In addition to his Middle School Head duties, Sam also serves as a college counselor and oversees the counseling, Guided Study Hall and Learning Support programs. Sam strives each day to model the three keys to success in the Middle School: Be Kind. Work Hard. Take Pride. He enjoys cycling, hiking, and skiing.

“The energy at Eastside Prep is infectious. Around every corner, you’ll find people engaged…students planning a fundraiser, teachers working together to plan an integrated lesson, advisors and advisees talking about their days. At EPS, folks care deeply about what they do and what they learn.”
