Dear EPS Community:

The 2022-2023 academic year was one of celebration and transition. The full community—current families, alumni, alumni parents, and employees—came together to celebrate our twentieth anniversary at various events held throughout the year. The fall brought an all-alumni reunion weekend and a Fall Harvest-style event welcoming alumni parents and alumni to campus. In the spring the entire community—current families, alumni families, newly enrolled families, as well as faculty/staff and their families—were welcomed to an all-community gathering on campus. Our twentieth anniversary was a milestone for our school, and we celebrated in true EPS fashion—as a community!

No recap of the year would be complete without mention of the retirement of our founding Head of School, Dr. Terry Macaluso. Dr. Macaluso has been central to our school’s journey and story, and her visionary leadership laid the foundation for Eastside Prep. Dr. Macaluso’s dedication and commitment is evident, and her efforts have touched the lives of countless alumni and current students and their families. Although she is no longer on our campus daily, her impact on our entire community will be felt for years to come.

The school’s twentieth year highlighted not just our past accomplishments but our vision for Eastside Prep’s future. From our new strategic initiatives (included in this issue of Inspire) to the launch of our first endowment effort, EPS continues to make plans for the next twenty years and beyond.

It’s important to note that Eastside Prep can only move forward through the partnership and collaboration between the school and families. One example of the engagement of our community is the financial support shown during this past year. From the Annual Fund to the endowment efforts, the support of current parents, alumni parents, and alumni exceeded all expectations, showcasing the belief in all that Eastside Prep provides.

There is much to look forward to as we move into our twenty-first year as a school. There will be new opportunities to enhance learning, to strengthen relationships, and to build community—we look forward to sharing all of those experiences with you.

Kind regards,

Sam Uzwack,
Head of School

A strong fundraising effort is an indicator of something larger—a dedicated and engaged community. Once again, the Eastside Prep community signaled its investment in our school, students, faculty/staff, and the unique educational opportunities available here.  Ninety-six percent of our current parents/guardians contributed to the Annual Fund campaign while 100% of faculty/staff and Trustees supported the effort.

Better World Endowment

Eastside Prep celebrated the school’s twentieth anniversary by launching its first endowment effort—The Better World endowment. Over $7,000,000 was raised to support two important funds: The Macaluso Fund for Faculty and Staff Professional Development and The Fund for Student Support.

The Better World Endowment

An endowment is considered an indicator of a school’s financial health. The Better World Endowment founded in spring of 2023 will ensure Eastside Prep’s financial health for years to come.  Thank you to the generous current parents/guardians, alumni parents/guardians, alumni, Trustees, and employees who supported this important effort during its inaugural year.

Endowment funds are managed at the direction of the Board of Trustees and all funds are currently invested responsibly. There is a cap on the total spending of endowment funds, although no endowment funds are being spent at this time.

Named Endowment Funds

In addition to the generous donations to the Macaluso Fund for Faculty and Staff Professional Development and the Fund for Student Support, some generous families created named funds to benefit one (or both) efforts.
